UDS Signs MoU With University Of British Colombia, Okanagan To Renew Relationship

The University for Development Studies (UDS) and the University of British Colombia, Okanagan, on 7th March 2023, signed a memorandum of understanding to renew their long existing relationship.

The Delegation from the University of British Colombia, led by Dr. Rehan Sadiq (Provost and Vice-President, Academic) included Prof. Will Hughes (Director of the School of Engineering), Dr. Marie Tarrant (Dean of Faculty of Health and Social Development and Jaqueline Dennison , Associate Professor of Teaching and the Interim Director for the School Nursing at the UBC, Okanagan. They met with Prof. Seidu Al-hassan (Vice Chancellor, UDS), Mr. Nurudeen Issah Abubakar (Registrar) and the Director of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Hardi Shaibu. Also present were Deans from various schools and faculties of UDS.

The Partnership between the two Institutions goes back several years, with both universities having worked together on many programs and initiatives.

Prof. Seidu Al-hassan, said that he is very happy to host the delegates at his institution. He also stated that he is very excited about the development of the relationship so far, because it has produced some outstanding outcomes in the past, adding that the two parties can build on those outcomes to create more opportunities for students and faculties.

Prof. Seidu Al-hassan also explained to the delegates the UDS mission and vision, and hoped they meet with that of the UBC to achieve a win-win results.

Dr. Rehan Sadiq (Provost and Vice-President, UBC) expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome by UDS. He said partnership is extremely important to them and so it was necessary for them to come to UDS to rejuvenate the relationship. He added that the two universities assess the relationship, taking into consideration, the successes chalked up so far, the challenges encountered and the way forward.

 Dr. Rehan also made a short presentation on the history of the University of British Colombia and their growth so far in respect of academics, research and infrastructure. He also shared the vision of their university. He echoed that, he was also happy to hear the UDS success story and said they are ready to also learn from UDS.

The renewal of the relationship between the University for Development Studies and the University of British Columbia is a significant development for the academic community and a positive step towards fostering greater collaboration and cooperation among Universities.
